A new Eminem? Rating stars Sent: 02 September 2010
I really love this record. The tracks that grabbed me first are Love the Way You Lie, Won't Back Down and Talkin" 2 Myself. However it is a whole concept and a new energy is apparent in Eminem. I like lyrics so there is a lot of Bob Dylan, Em and Pete Doherty, in all his changes, in my record collection. A lot of people think it's a weird mix but the quality they share is a great and masterful use of words. They create images and pull me into their stories. I think if Em can deal with the pressure we have the prospect of more of what made Em in the first place; people empathized and felt what he did but couldn't express it. I wish him all the best.

This is a poor follow up to the brilliant Relapse from a couple of years back. When Relapse came out i thought that it was a superb comeback with some excellent production by Dr Dre and tight raps from Mr Mathers. Recovery is something of a step back. Recovery is not a terrible album just a very average one. Vocally it's superb but production wise it lacking. DJ Khalil is no Dre and even the likes of Pink and Lil Wayne can't add any flavour to a dull album. I used to play Relapse all the time but i was totally bored of Recovery after about 3 listens. There's a few decent tracks. "Seduction" is cool "25 to life" is another great song and single "love the way you lie" is also excellent. The rest left me just a bit meh! ..the beats just seemed to be a bit dull and uninspired.

Just ok for me.

Something Fresh... Rating stars Sent: 27 August 2010
I've just been listening to this album, and this is just to say that all the (positive) comments & reviews are true - this album really is Eminem back on top form. But it's not like his previous album's in having skits & similar themes running through it (e.g. his mom, illegal chemicals & mocking celebrities).

This album is something bold, new & innovative, almost like it's been done by a completely different rapper - so altered is the material.
And the best thing about this reinvention is that it is raw & rough - tracks like Going Through Changes & Cold Wind Blows are unlikely to be singles, but are there to add texture to the album.

Some have said it is as good as The Eminem Show & I'd partly agree (to emphasise how good it is compared to the last two albums).
However, I don't think it is quite as vivid & attention-grabbing as his peak & I'd say it was more comparable with Invaders Must Die or The God Delusion in being ground-breaking work, but not quite on the level of their peerless work in their youth.

Still, don't let that stop you buying this album, as it really is a very impressive & lyrically sound record.
That said, if you only have £10 to your name, then don't buy this.

Why?

Because I think the album following Alive Till I'm Dead by Professor Green will be incomparably better. And besides, I'm sure Eminem would forgive you!

After Relapse, arguably Em's worst album, everybody's favourite rapper has returned with one hell of an album. Definetly his best since The Eminem Show, and could possibly be up there among Marshal Mathers LP.

Cold Wind Blows: 8/10 : The first song is very much a warning to the listener. If you can't stomach his crazy lyrics here, then you better turn off the CD.

Talkin' 2 Myself feat. Kobe: 9/10: The second track starts with a great bassline and superb vocals from singer Kobe. Then Em comes in and rips it all up with some great verses.

On Fire: 10/10: Upon first listen, this was one of my least favourite songs on the album. However, upon each new listen I appreciate the song even more. The beat is catchy and Eminem really brings out some amazing lyrics.

Won't Back Down feat. Pink: 9/10: In this track Eminem goes all Rage Against The Machine, which just blew me away. The beat here is un-relenting, and the track is pure chaos. Which is good by the way.

W.T.P: 8/10: Probably the worst track on the album, but definetly not a poor song. It's catchy, but the lyrics arn't as good as some of the other songs. Still amusing though.

Going Through Changes: 10/10: One of the most sincere tracks on the CD. Eminem discusses the difficulty's of his relapse and over-coming drug addiction. Ozzy Osbourne's chorus is still as powerful as ever.

Not Afraid: 9/10: A great track to advertise the album. The lyrics are also rather sincere, Em states that he knows his last album was poor and he promises he'll never return to it again. Couldn't agree more.

Seduction: 9/10: This song reminds me of one of Em's earlier songs, Superman. Which is a good thing. Both are about Eminem's sexual desire, and both feature great beats. But Seduction I think improves over Superman.

No Love: 10/10: This track never ceases to amaze me. With a great dance beat, and a decent turn from Lil Wayne, the song gets off to a good start. But when Eminem steps up, my good does he step up. His verse is one of the greatest I have ever heard from a rapper, and also features some of his fastest rapping ever.

Space Bound: 11/10: My favourite song of the album, and one of my favourite Eminem tracks ever. The lyrics are dark, depressing, and heart-breaking. The beat is amazing, and the chorus/hook is one of the best I have ever heard from Em. In my opinion, Space Bound rivals Stan for his greatest song ever.

Cinderella Man: 9/10: An unusual, almost out of place, but none the less brilliant tune. It picks the album up from the depressing place it was just in (Space Bound), to a new, happy, and bright place.

25 To Life: 8/10: The song tells a very good story, about Eminem and his 'strange love'. After about three listens you will probably get the story. Something feels missing however.

So Bad: 9/10: Just like Seduction, this song is much like Superman. But it tells a different story, with some great catchy lyrics.

Almost Famous: 10/10: Just when the album was settling down into a series of great tracks, Almost Famous brings it back up to the level of awesome. Em's lyrics are crazy, twisted, but also hilarious. Definetly one of his best songs throughout the years.

Love The Way You Lie feat. Rihanna: 9/10: Basically the radio friendly version of Space Bound. It isn't as good as the latter, but is still brilliant. The lyrics are once again heart-breaking, as they explore the self destructive relationship between Eminem and his former wife, Kim. Check out the video, it's very good!

You're Never Over: 10/10: Eminem's final tribute to his desceased best-friend and former co-rapper, Proof. If you've followed Em over the years, then you will know about the death of Proof from the album Encore. You're Never Over is a touching tribute to his best-friend, and one that shows Eminem at his most sincere. Pure brilliance.

Untitled Bonus Track: 9/10: Em dosn't want to leave his listeners feeling down, so he breaks out one last track, full of humour and wit. Is this a sign of things to come from the next album? If so, then expect Eminem's alter-ego Slim Shady to be in control throughout.

If you're already a fan of Eminem, just buy the album. If you've never listened to Eminem, you should probably start with the Marshal Mathers LP, just to become aware of some of the story's behind his songs. However, starting with Recovery would probably not hinder you're listening pleasure as it is so darn good.

Eminem is back at his best, and the whole world of Rap is running scared...
